Chapter 6

Two Days Later

Jack watched as Holden’s eyes fluttered open. The young man blinked a few times and looked at Jack, his eyes filling with tears. His heart dropped. It wasn’t the reaction he was hoping for. Taking a deep breath, he tried to figure out his next move. Should he move back and give the wolf some space? He didn’t want to upset him or cause him any excess pain. He’d been unconscious for a couple of days.

“Hi, I’m Jack Hearst,” he said awkwardly. This was the first time he was meeting his True Match. The last time, Holden had been too drunk. He obviously didn’t remember him. “Please don’t be scared.”

Holden shook his head, “I’m not. I remember you, your face.” Tears fell down his cheeks and Jack wiped them away, wishing he could take the man’s pain. “I’m yours.”

“Yes, you’re mine and I’m going to take very good care of you.” Holden’s lips turned up and his beautiful blue eyes sparkled. Jack’s heart soared.

“I hurt…my chest,” he croaked out.

“I know, baby. I’m so sorry. Your friend, Maddox…” he started. How was he going to explain that Holden’s best friend had tried to kill him?

“I know…he shifted and…” Jack saw Holden’s Adam’s apple bob. “He was so angry. I’ve never seen him like that before.”

“I’m sorry, baby.” Jack kept his voice low, hoping to soothe his young man.

“Am I…” He cleared his throat and licked his dry lips.

“You’re going to be fine. I know that you’re in some pain. I’ll get the doctor and let your pack know that you’re awake. Everyone has been very worried about you.”

“I’m tired.” His eyes drooped, closing once more.

Jack leaned forward and kissed Holden’s cheek. He turned his head, letting their lips brush, and tried to move closer to Jack. He let out a sad whine.

“Shhh…just stay still, baby.” Jack moved closer to Holden before reconnecting their lips.
